Examples of the 14 icon classes

Welcome to the NicIcon website. On this website you can: (i) find details about the data collection process, (ii) download both online and offline data, (iii) find online documents and references to publications on the database, and (iv) download the NicIcon database of iconic pen gestures.

The online data are divided in three subsets (trainset, testset and evalset) for both writer independent and writer dependent settings. These data can be used for development and benchmark testing of your iconic (online) pen gesture classifiers.

The NicIcon collection contains simultaneously acquired online and offline data. The scanned documents corresponding to the online data are available for download as well.

If you have any questions about the data collection or collection procedure, please feel free to contact us.

For our publication in Pattern Recognition, we improved the segmentations and were able to recover some extra segments. These data (including word and character segmentations of the London letter pages) are available via nic_london.tgz. Please refer to this new version of the NicIcon set as:

August 2008

We have recently submitted new classification results to a journal. These results improve on those published in the ICFHR 2008 article (see documents section), and include the introduction of a new feature set, which is described in a technical report which can be downloaded from the documents section.
